SWOC Statement on Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion

June 4, 2020

The events of recent weeks have exposed the stark reality in our country that the very injustices that have resulted in so much pain historically still occur on a daily basis. The deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery, and the subsequent unrest across the nation have highlighted the need to continue our work in eradicating discrimination.  No matter our skin color, our gender, our religious beliefs, or our sexual orientation, we all have a responsibility in creating change in our society.

The Southwest Ohio Conference recognizes its important role in uniting the students, coaches, fans, and communities of its member schools through the vehicle of education-based sports and activities.  We know that the skills and lessons that our students learn through their activities will continue to serve them as they become productive and respectful members of society.  Furthermore, we understand that it is incumbent upon us all to actively pursue a solution to the inequalities that exist in our country, and simply turning our attention elsewhere when injustice occurs is a disservice to our families.

The Southwest Ohio Conference and its member schools are committed to celebrating diversity, ensuring equality, and promoting inclusion of all student-athletes, families, and staff.
