Preview of the 2019 SWOC Cross Country Championships


On Saturday, October 12th, the Southwest Ohio Conference Cross Country Championship Meet will be held at Talawanda High School.  Admission to the meet is $5 per car.  The day of racing will begin at 9:30 AM with the Girls High School Race and will be followed by the Boys High School Race at 10:15 AM.  High School Awards will be presented at 11:00 AM.  The Girls Junior High Race is scheduled for 11:30 AM and the Boys Junior High Race will commence at 12:00 noon.  Junior High Awards will be presented at 12:45 PM.

Talawanda has captured the SWOC Girls Cross Country Championship the last two seasons and claimed four of the seven titles in conference history.  The top five times posted so far this season are:  Hannah Lippincott (Talawanda) 18:25.0; Maddy Iden (Talawanda) 19:07.0; Libby Farmer (Talawanda) 19:36.0; Lydia Vach (Little Miami) 19:58.9; and Grace Biddle (Little Miami) 20:01.4.  Little Miami's Lydia Vach was the 2017 Athlete of the Year and Talawanda's Maddy Iden was the 2018 Athlete of the Year.

Ross won the SWOC Boys Cross Country Championships last season.  The competitiveness of this sport within the SWOC is evident by the fact that five of the seven schools have claimed titles during the seven years of the conference.  The top five times posted so far this season are:  William Zegarski (Little Miami) 16:11.80; Kiefer Bell (Talawanda) 16:12.11; Logan Murray (Talawanda) 16:51.00; Jens Bartel (Talawanda) 17:05.00; and James Palmer (Ross) 17:20.49.  Good luck to all of the athletes and coaches!!!
