SWOC Spotlight: Mt. Healthy Owls

Conquer Chiari Walk Across America
Our football team helped work the 12th Annual Conquer Chiari Walk Across America.  The event was held at 72 locations, and raised over $370,000 for research and other patient centered programs.  Chiari is a serious neurological disorder where the bottom part of the brain descends out of the skull and crowds the spinal cord putting pressure on both the brain and spine causing many health issues.  One of our Administrative Assistants has a mom and daughter who needed the surgery.   Her daughter, Chrissy (Herlinger) Tino, a Mt. Healthy graduate and former coach, is one of the Walk’s organizers.

In the Holiday Spirit
For the 10th year in a row, our football team goes shopping to purchase items to help Mt. Healthy residents have a better holiday.  In addition to shopping, they spent two weekends at Kroger collecting perishable items for the district’s food drive.  As usual, the community shows up to support to help others.  The team also attended and helped with the “Christmas in Mt. Healthy” event held by the Mt. Healthy Business District.

Opening Minds with Art Connects Students with Elderly Residents
In December, Mt. Healthy High School students who participate in Opening Minds with Art showcased the art projects that they had worked on with residents of Mt. Healthy Christian Home. The students have volunteered one afternoon a week with several residents working on multiple art designs. The special projects help dementia residents’ work on their social skills and coordination skills.  The beautiful art on display was actually for purchase by those who attended the revealing event. ?
