Winter sports in full swing

As another calendar year calls it quits, here’s a little look at what’s happening this winter in the Southwest Ohio Conference.

Northwest (4-4, 3-0) and Mount Healthy (3-6, 2-0) are the last two unbeaten boys basketball teams (in conference play). The Owls visit Northwest on Jan. 5 in a very important league showdown.

For the Knights, James Adleta (12.0), Kaleb Williams (11.4) and Isaiah Loveless (10.3) are all averaging in double figures scoring. Mount Healthy’s been led by Kaleb Taylor (14.0) and Brandon Lanier (11.8).

Landon Angel, of Ross, leads the SWOC in scoring (21.0) and ranks second in rebounds (7.5). Ross is another team still very much in the conference hunt at 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the league.

The girls basketball race couldn’t be any closer. Edgewood, at 5-4 overall and 3-0 in the conference, sits at the top right now, with Little Miami (7-3, 3-1), Talawanda (5-2, 2-1), Northwest (4-4, 2-1) and Mount Healthy (5-4, 1-2) all lurking nearby.

Talawanda's Addie Brown leads the league in scoring per game (21.7). Northwest's Sante Williams (13.8), Little Miami's Sydney Kuritar (12.2), Mount Healthy's Gabrielle Barnett (11.6) and Edgewood's Cierra Lipps (11.0) each lead their respective teams in scoring.
