Runners ready for regional meet

A season to remember for many of the conference's cross country teams continued last weekend at the district race. Only the top four teams and top 16 individuals earn a spot at the regional meet Oct. 31 in Troy.

Edgewood senior Andrew Testas, the SWOC champion, advanced to regionals with a fifth-place finish at the Division I district meet at Miami Valley Career Tech Center. Testas ran a time of 16:38.58.

Talawanda senior Jessica Starrett also advanced out of the Division I meet with a time of 20:12.24 to claim the 13th spot.

The Ross boys team finished fifth and missed sending the whole group in Division II, Race A, but freshman Steven Knebel and sophomore Micah Fields punched their tickets as individuals. Knebel finished 10th in a time of 17:34.8, and Fields was right behind him in 11th (17:37.3).

The Lady Rams took second place, meaning they'll have the opportunity to race as a group at regionals.

Junior Emily Casaceli continued came in second overall with a time of 19:47.5. Her senior teammate, Katelyn Goins, ran fifth in 20:16.7. Sophomore Abi Clayton finished 10th in 21:03.1, with junior Saylor Kneel on her heels in 14th (21:33.1).

Check back in with us this weekend to see how they do. Also, if you're going to the races in Troy Saturday, you can share the results as they happen on Twitter by sending results to @swocsports.

Good luck to everyone racing!
