Northwest wins regional track and field championship
On May 29 in Dayton, the Northwest boys' track and field team won a Division I regional championship finishing six points better than Centerville.
Harrison senior Kaylan Gruber won a regional championship in the 100 meters (12.49). Gruber also advanced to state in the 200 meters. Northwest senior DeVohn Jackson also won a regional title in the 100 (10.98). Northwest's 4x100 relay of Jackson, Jordan Booker, Myles Pringle and Malik Beverly took home a regional (41.76). Pringle was also a regional champion in the 400 meters (47.46) and qualified in the high jump to state. Beverly won the regional title in the long jump and qualified for state in the 300 hurdles with second-place at the regional. The Knights' 4x400 relay will also run at state.
Edgewood's Hannah Bush qualified to state in the high jump. Mount Healthy freshman Kayela Houston will also be at state, after taking second in the long jump at regionals.
The top four finishers in each event qualify for the state meet June 5-6 at Ohio State.
